    • Trekking Seasons

The weather and climate in Lower Mustang, like in many mountainous regions, can be quite variable and is significantly influenced by the seasons. Understanding the seasonal weather patterns is crucial for trekkers planning to explore this area.

      Spring (March to May)

Spring is one of the most favorable seasons for trekking in Lower Mustang. During this time, the weather is generally mild and stable. The daytime temperatures can range from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F), providing a comfortable climate for trekking. Nights can still be chilly, with temperatures dropping below freezing at higher altitudes. Spring is also the time when the region's flora blooms, covering the landscape in vibrant colors and making it a perfect season for nature lovers.

      Summer/Monsoon (June to August)

Summer in Lower Mustang coincides with the monsoon season in Nepal. This season sees warmer temperatures, but also brings heavy rainfall, particularly in the lower regions. However, Mustang lies in the rain shadow of the Himalayas, which means it receives significantly less rainfall than other parts of Nepal. This makes Lower Mustang still accessible for trekking during the monsoon season, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F). Trekkers should still be prepared for occasional showers and slippery trails.

      Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is another peak season for trekking in Lower Mustang, offering clear skies, stable weather, and moderate temperatures. Daytime temperatures hover around 12°C to 20°C (54°F to 68°F), while nights can be cool to cold, especially as you gain altitude. This season also provides spectacular views of the Himalayas, with minimal cloud cover and lower dust levels in the air. The autumn season is ideal for those looking to experience the full majesty of the mountain vistas.

      Winter (December to February)

Winter in Lower Mustang is marked by cold temperatures and snowfall, especially at higher altitudes. Daytime temperatures can range from 5°C to 10°C (41°F to 50°F), while nights are often below freezing. While trekking is still possible, it's essential to be well-prepared for the cold, and some higher passes may be impassable due to snow. The winter season offers a unique perspective of the region, with fewer tourists and snow-capped mountains, but requires proper gear and preparation.
