Sometimes one day is all you need. The Dhampus Trek is our favourite day trip from Pokhara — easy, beautiful, and genuinely rewarding. Just a short drive from the city and you find yourself walking through peaceful forests and terraced fields with the Annapurna range right in front of you.

This is a wonderful option for families, beginners, or anyone who wants to feel the mountains without committing to a longer trek.

    • Trek Description

From Pokhara, a short 30-minute drive takes you to Phedi, where the trail begins. The path winds gently uphill through lush forest — quiet, shaded, and full of birdsong.

Keep your eyes open along the way — the forest is home to monkeys, a wonderful variety of birds, and occasionally even a leopard passing through.

As you climb, the trees give way to terraced fields and the first glimpses of the mountains appear. You will pass through small villages where locals go about their daily lives, and where we always enjoy stopping for a short chat and a cup of tea.

The trail leads you to Dhampus (1,650 m) — one of our favourite villages in the entire Annapurna region. Perched on a ridge with sweeping views of Annapurna South, Machhapuchare, and Hiunchuli, it is the kind of place that makes you want to stay longer. We will stop here for a delicious traditional Nepali lunch with the mountains as your backdrop.

From Dhampus the trail continues up to Australian Camp (2,065 m), a wonderful viewpoint with panoramic views of the entire Annapurna range. This is a great spot to take your time, take some photos, and simply breathe it all in before we make our way back to Pokhara.

    • Trekking Seasons

The Dhampus Trek can be enjoyed throughout the year — it is one of the most accessible day treks from Pokhara in any season.

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November)

The finest times for this trek. Clear skies, comfortable temperatures around 20°C (68°F), and stunning mountain views. Spring brings beautiful wildflowers along the trail — a lovely bonus.

      Summer (June to August)

The monsoon season brings warm temperatures around 25°C (77°F) and lush, green landscapes. The trail can be muddy after heavy rain but the forest feels wonderfully alive. A quieter and more peaceful time to be outdoors.

      Winter (December to February)

Cool and crisp, with temperatures around 10°C (50°F). The mountains are sharp and clear and the trail is peaceful. A warm jacket and good layers are all you need.
