Most people come to Nepal for the mountains. But Nepal is so much more than that — and Chitwan National Park is proof of it.

AUNESCO World Heritage Site, Chitwan is one of the finest wildlife reserves in Asia and a completely different kind of adventure. Thick jungle, wide rivers, one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, and the warm culture of the Tharu people who have called this land home for generations.

Part of our Beyond Trekking programme, this tour takes 3 days and can be arranged from either Pokhara or Kathmandu. We take care of everything — you just show up and let the jungle do the rest.

    • Tour Description

Chitwan is located in the southern lowlands of Nepal, about 5 hours by car from Kathmandu and 6 hours from Pokhara. The journey itself is beautiful — descending from the hills into a lush, tropical landscape that feels worlds away from the Himalayas.

Over three days, you will experience the park in several different ways. Jungle walks with a local guide take you deep into the forest, where every sound and footprint tells a story. A peaceful canoe ride on the Rapti River offers a very different perspective — gliding silently past crocodiles, Gharials, and a remarkable variety of birdlife.

The park is home to some of Nepal's most iconic wildlife — one-horned rhinoceros, Bengal tigers, wild elephants, and over 500 species of birds. Every walk and every ride brings the possibility of an encounter that you will never forget.

In the evenings, a visit to a Tharu village offers a window into a culture that has lived alongside this jungle for centuries. The traditional dances, the warm hospitality, and the local food make for a deeply memorable experience.

This is Nepal at its most wild, most colourful, and most surprising. We are always very glad to be part of it.

    • Weather

Chitwan has a tropical climate and can be visited throughout the year — but the timing does make a difference to the experience.

October to March — Our Recommended Season

The dry season offers the most comfortable conditions for wildlife spotting. Temperatures average 25–30°C (77–86°F) during the day and 10–15°C (50–59°F) at night. Clear skies and lower vegetation make wildlife sightings much easier.

      April to June

Temperatures begin to rise, sometimes reaching 30–40°C (86–104°F). It can be hot and humid but the park is quieter and the wildlife is still very active. A good option if you prefer fewer tourists.

      Monsoon (June to September)

Heavy rainfall, high humidity, and lush green landscapes. The park can be muddy and some activities may be limited. Please do reach out and we will advise you honestly on what to expect during this season.

    • What To Pack

For Chitwan we would like to make sure you are well prepared. Here is what we recommend bringing:

Comfortable clothing — lightweight and breathable to keep you cool in the heat and humidity. Cotton or synthetic materials like nylon or polyester work very well. Please also pack comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots.

Sun protection — a hat or cap, sunglasses, and a high-SPF sunscreen are all essential in the strong tropical sun.

Insect repellent — Chitwan is a tropical area with plenty of mosquitoes and other insects. Please do not forget this one.

Rain gear — Chitwan receives a fair amount of rainfall, especially during the monsoon season. A waterproof jacket or poncho is a very good idea.

Personal hygiene items — please bring your own toiletries such as toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, and shampoo, as these may not always be provided at the lodge.

Medications — if you are on any regular medication, please bring sufficient quantities for the full duration of the trip. We also recommend carrying a small first-aid kit with bandages, antiseptic cream, and painkillers.

Camera and binoculars — Chitwan is home to a wonderful variety of wildlife and landscapes. You will be very glad you brought both.

Cash — please bring enough to cover any personal expenses, souvenirs, or additional meals not included in the tour.

Please feel free to check the weather forecast for Chitwan National Park before you finalise your packing.
