Annapurna Base Camp Trek — One of the Great Treks of the World

Breathtaking sunrise illuminating the snow-capped peaks of the Annapurna range, seen from Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal.

Highlights:

  • Sunrise at the Annapurna Base Camp with a view on Annapurna I (8,091 m)
  • Stunning views of the Annapurna and Machhapuchhre peaks along the way
  • Passing through traditional Gurung villages and terraced farmland
  • Hiking through diverse landscapes, from lush jungle to rugged rock formations
  • A well-deserved soak in the natural hot springs of Jhinu Danda — the perfect halfway treat

The Annapurna Base Camp Trek is our most booked trek — and it is not hard to understand why. From the moment you leave Pokhara to the moment you stand at 4,130 metres, surrounded by some of the highest peaks on earth, this trek has a way of staying with you long after you return home.

The trek takes 6 to 10 days to complete, though we are happy to extend it to suit your pace.

    • Trek Description

The first days take you through charming Gurung villages and terraced farmland, with the Annapurna peaks slowly revealing themselves through the trees. The trail is varied and constantly beautiful — lush jungle in the lower sections, open ridgelines higher up, and dramatic glacial landscapes as you approach the base camp.

Along the way, we recommend a stop at Jhinu Danda for a dip in the natural hot springs — a wonderful treat for tired legs halfway through the trek.

As you arrive at Annapurna Base Camp (4,130 m), you find yourself in the heart of one of the most iconic mountain amphitheatres in the world. Annapurna I, Annapurna South, and Machhapuchare rise around you on all sides. On a clear morning, the sunrise here is something we never tire of witnessing.

The walk back down is just as rewarding. The mountains look different from the other direction, the villages feel familiar, and there is a quiet sense of achievement that stays with you all the way back to Pokhara.

    • Trekking Seasons

The weather on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek can change quickly, especially at higher elevations. Here is what to expect in each season.

      Autumn (September to November)

This is the season we recommend most. The skies are clear, the air is fresh, and the views from base camp are truly breathtaking. Temperatures range from 5–15°C (41–59°F) in the lower sections and -5 to 5°C (23–41°F) higher up.

      Spring (March to May)

As the snow begins to melt, the trail comes alive with colour and warmth. An excellent time for trekking with temperatures similar to autumn. The rhododendrons are in full bloom on the lower sections — a beautiful bonus.

      Winter (December to February)

The most challenging season. Snow is common at higher elevations and temperatures near base camp can drop to -20°C (-4°F). It is possible but requires very careful preparation. Please do reach out and we will advise you honestly for your specific dates.

      Summer (June to August)

Heavy monsoon rain makes the trails muddy and increases the risk of landslides on certain sections. Daytime temperatures reach 10–20°C (50–68°F) but it can be very cold and windy at base camp. We would gently suggest a different season if your schedule allows.

We would always recommend checking the weather forecast for Annapurna Base Camp before you finalise your packing.
